The Process

How a Inspections Job Goes

90 minutes to 2.5 hours depending on vehicle type and how deep the inspection goes

1

Document and visual walk-around

15 to 20 min

Record VIN, mileage, and condition. Note any obvious paint work, panel gaps, or rust on the body.

2

On-lift undercarriage inspection

20 to 30 min

Check frame, suspension, steering, exhaust, fuel and brake lines, CV boots, and look for active leaks.

3

Engine and electronics scan

20 to 30 min

Full module scan for stored and pending codes, check fluid condition, belts, hoses, and battery health.

4

Brakes, tires, and road test

20 to 30 min

Measure pads and rotors, check tread, then drive it on local roads and a stretch of highway to check shifts, alignment, and noises.

5

Written report and review

15 to 30 min

Walk you through the findings in person or over the phone with photos. You get a real list, not a checkmark sheet.

Good to Know

Inspections Questions

Call for current pricing. It varies by vehicle type (a Honda Civic is faster than a 6.7L diesel), but it is almost always less than the cost of the first surprise repair after you buy.

You bring the vehicle to the shop. Most sellers and dealers will allow a buyer to take a used vehicle out for an inspection, and that is the only way Ryan can put it on a lift and scan it properly.

It does not really pass or fail. You get a report on what is good, what needs attention soon, and what is a deal-breaker. You decide what to do with the information.

Kansas does not require annual safety inspections for passenger vehicles. We do offer thorough multi-point inspections, which is different from a state inspection but more useful day-to-day.
